Restaurant goers will have two new choices when coming downtown to eat. Sushi Confidential signed a lease at 17340 Monterey Road, the former Prova Restaurant space, and Giorgio’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria has signed a lease at 17380 Monterey Road at the southeast corner of Monterey Road and Second Street.
Sushi Confidential is an award-winning sushi restaurant recognized as the premier sushi brand in the Bay Area. It combines high-quality sushi and other Asian-influenced dishes within a vibrant atmosphere led by Chef Randy Musterer. It has brick-and-mortar locations in downtown Campbell, downtown San Jose and also offers concessions at Shoreline Amphitheatre and SAP Center.
“Sushi Confidential is honored and excited to be a part of the Morgan Hill community,” Musterer said. “We greatly appreciate the small-town feel and the strong sense of community. Our goal is to help continue to create an exceptional dining experience and add to the thriving group of downtown restaurants.” They plan to open in 2021.
Giorgio’s Italian Food is a family-owned business that started in 1959. The original “Giorgio’s” in the Foxworthy Shopping Center started in San Jose. The family has operated several restaurants over the years. Today, the D’Ambrosio family has restaurants in San Jose, Milpitas, and a new “Frankie, Johnnie & Luigi Too!” under construction on El Camino in Mountain View, which will be completed in 2023. The Morgan Hill unit will be called “Giorgio’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria” and will open in 2022.
Giorgio’s founding family also has a New York-style sausage factory in Sunnyvale that is the largest manufacturer of fresh Italian sausage on the West Coast. They are celebrating their 70th Anniversary this year.
“The D’Ambrosio family has always admired Morgan Hill as a community and the downtown as one of the hidden gems in the Bay Area,” said Mike D’Ambrosio, Giorgio’s co-owner. “Additionally, we believe this will be a good location as many of our long-time customers and supporters have moved to South County. We look forward to becoming ingrained in the community and the downtown,”
“Downtown Morgan Hill is flourishing with investment, new mixed-use projects, entertainment venues, a burgeoning restaurant scene, growing public art amenities, new parks, plazas, and trails,” said Matt Mahood, economic development director for the city of Morgan Hill. “Even during the COVID-19 Pandemic, downtown Morgan Hill has been able to remain a thriving district with regional and national recognition for offering the best outdoor dining space in the Bay Area and having one of the best vegan restaurants in the nation. We are excited to add Sushi Confidential and Giorgio’s to our culinary offerings.”
