Three candidates are running for Morgan Hill mayor, two each in council districts B and D

Most candidates for races on the Nov. 8 ballot will face opposition as the deadline to file passed last week.

For mayor of Morgan Hill, incumbent Rich Constantine will face former councilmember Larry Carr and Gilroy Chamber of Commerce CEO Mark Turner.

In the city council race for District B, incumbent Yvonne Martinez Beltran will face pastor and business owner Bryan Sutherland, while in District D incumbent John McKay will face former councilmember and president of a nonprofit Marilyn Librers.

The four open school board seats will be hotly contested as well.

In Trustee Area 1 incumbent Wendy Sullivan will face retired educator Nancy Altman-Palm.

In Trustee Area 2, incumbent John Horner will face Realtor/broker James Dill.

In Trustee Area 3, incumbent Heather Orosco declined to seek another term. The three candidates running for that area are business owner Dennis Paul Delisle, attorney Armando Benavides and retired teacher and librarian Terri Eves Knudsen.

In Trustee Area 4, incumbent Carol Gittens will face businesswoman Pamela Gardiner.

Running in the race for District 1 supervisor to replace the termed out Mike Wasserman are business owner Johnny Khamis and San Jose Councilmember Sylvia Arenas.

In the race for Gavilan Community College Trustee Area 1 are incumbent Laura Perry and businesswoman Kathy Chavez Napoli and small business owner Terry Peabody.

Valley Water District 1 representative John Varela is running unopposed.

In the race for sheriff to replace the retiring Laurie Smith are retired Palo Alto Police Chief Bob Jonsen and former Santa Clara County Sheriff Capt. Kevin Jensen.

There are also two measures on the Nov. 8 ballot. Measure A reads: “Shall the ordinance, changing zoning regulations throughout the City of Morgan Hill to prohibit buildings with characteristics that could be used for new storage and distribution uses in all areas of the City be adopted?”

Measure B reads: “Shall the measure, amending the City’s General Plan to require voter approval of any future Monterey Road lane reduction be adopted?
