At the north end of Morgan Hill, on the corner of Burnett Avenue and Monterey Road sits a Spanish style structure. The 1929 building hosts a variety of tenants.

The newest addition is Teresa’s Morgan Hill Café — a unique restaurant that focuses on original recipes made with local fresh ingredients. All are delivered at a very reasonable price.

Originally from the Midwest, Teresa Fowler relocated to Morgan Hill four years ago with her family. She opened her restaurant in 2021.

“I feel like I have been here a lot longer,” she said. “Morgan Hill has a great sense of community and a lot of warm people.”

She runs the restaurant with a team of three women and her son, Lucas.

Fowler was a 4-H student. The international cooking she learned at 4-H piqued her interest in food. Like Rachel Ray, she emphasizes she is a “cook,” not a chef.

Her chicken noodle soup ($6.55 for 16 ounce bowl) is built on a hearty bone broth made in-house.

She likes to experiment with Americana recipes, always looking for a creative twist. Her team spurs her ideas. One of her team members noted heart-shaped cupcakes on Instagram. The entire team learned how to make them — and they were a Valentine’s Day hit.

The cafe specializes in house-made desserts. The Mexican hot chocolate cookie ($1.50) has a rich chocolate flavor with a hint of cinnamon, ancho chili powder and touch of cayenne. They have a variety of desserts that change weekly, including flan, cupcakes, small cakes (called “babycakes”) and a wide array of cookies.

The restaurant has become a hub of the community, with many regulars. One is Gene Carlisle.

“We started meeting at the dog park during the pandemic to walk our dogs and talk and started going to Teresa’s afterward,” he said.

His group shares a meal every Thursday, with their dogs on the patio weather permitting.

The menu is anchored by a few regular items including the chicken egg roll in a bowl ($7.55) and the charcoal roasted brisket ($7.50).

Fowler also introduced weekly specials, posting a complete list on Facebook facebook.com/morganhillcafe and a more limited version of the specials on her website www.teresasmhcafe.com.

Teresa’s Morgan Hill Café is located at 19500 Monterey Rd. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Stop by and enjoy a bite to eat at this unique boutique cafe.
