In February 1959, Frank and Concetta (Tina) D’Ambrosio, along with their “paisans” Mario and Enza Volpe, opened the original Giorgio’s Pizza House. Located in San Jose’s Foxworth Shopping Center, the name honored a beloved friend.

A year later, family cousins Louise and Anthony D’Ambrosio took control of the business. Affectionately known as “Sash and Lou,” the couple ran it for the next eight years. In 1968, Frank and Tina’s four sons Don, Nick, Frank and John, purchased the restaurant, keeping it in the family to this day. Pictures and paintings of all these family members still grace the walls of the original restaurant.

Giorgio’s founding family also operate a New York-style sausage factory in Sunnyvale. Celebrating seven decades, they are the largest manufacturer of fresh Italian sausage on the West Coast.

In 1997, a second Giorgio’s location was established in the Milpitas Town Center and built the restaurant’s reputation for a high standard of food, service and value for its customers. Last year, Giorgio’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria opened in Morgan Hill at the southeast corner of Monterey Road and Second Street. It carries on the family’s tradition for providing fine food with friendly service.

“The D’Ambrosio family has always admired Morgan Hill as a community and the downtown as one of the hidden gems in the Bay Area,” said Mike D’Ambrosio, Giorgio’s co-owner. “Additionally, we believe this is a great location as many of our long-time customers and supporters have moved to South County. We look forward to becoming ingrained in the community and the downtown.”
