This is a report released to the media at 3:38 p.m. Aug. 1, 2023

On August 1, 2023, at approximately 11:10 am, the Morgan Hill Police Department received a single call from a person on campus of shots fired at Live Oak High School. Officers arrived on scene within a minute and 30 seconds of the call.

Officers followed Active Shooter protocol, locked down the school and conducted a thorough search until they determined no shooting had occurred and no threat was present.

During the investigation, officers learned the caller reported hearing four gunshots inside the school five minutes prior to making the call to police. Officers were able to locate the caller, as well as other people on campus and determined there was no active threat. Investigators are still trying to determine what led the single reporting party to believe they had heard gunshots on school grounds.
