Manufacturing company Toray Advanced  Composites is expanding its presence in Morgan Hill by adding an additional 74,000 square feet to its existing  142,419-square-foot campus.

This expansion will help Toray meet the ever-growing worldwide market demand for  thermoplastic products by increasing the company’s production by 50 percent and enhancing supply chain readiness and laboratory technologies. The company employs 250 people and estimates hiring about 100  additional employees to support its increased operations. Toray expects to be fully operational in their new space,  located at 18305 Sutter Blvd., before the end of the year.

“We’re growing our operations to meet the demand for quality advanced composites,” said managing director,  USA, Global CTO Scott Unger. “This addition to our Toray facilities in Morgan Hill will dramatically increase capacity  for aerospace, urban air mobility, defense, commercial, and industrial markets worldwide. Toray is both proud and excited to continue our growth within the fantastic city of Morgan Hill and its surrounding community.”

Toray Advanced Composites is a leading supplier to the aerospace industry, providing advanced thermoset and  thermoplastic composite materials that support the production of lightweight structures for the latest generation  of commercial, general aviation, military, and unmanned aircraft. Their products can be found on nearly every  satellite and launch vehicle produced in the Western world. The original company, called TenCate Advanced  Composites, was founded in The Netherlands in 1972.

They opened their Morgan Hill manufacturing facility in 2000, which doubled in size in less than 10 years. TenCate Advanced Composites was acquired by Japan-based  Toray Industries Inc. in 2018. Today, Toray operates in 29 countries/regions and employs nearly 7,000  employees.

“The city of Morgan Hill is delighted to see Toray expand and bring more jobs to Morgan Hill,” said city of Morgan Hill Economic Development Director Matt Mahood. “The expansion demonstrates the strength of Morgan Hill’s advanced manufacturing sector and our continued ability to attract and retain high-quality  employers.”
