Bobcats unable to overcome early six run deficit, lose 7-6

The Martin Murphy Mustangs beat the Britton Bobcats 7-6, holding on after taking a six run lead in the sixth inning and win the Santa Clara County Softball Finals.
Britton Bobcats scored five runs in the sixth with help from an RBI double by Alyssa Naranjo and three errors.
Despite its efforts, Britton Bobcats couldn’t get over the early deficit.
After pitching four scoreless innings, Justice Herman recorded the win for Martin Murphy Mustangs despite the rough bottom of the sixth.
Ashley Church couldn’t get it done in the circle for Britton Bobcats, taking the loss. She allowed seven runs in six innings, walked seven and struck out one.
Murphy started our strong by putting a run up in the top of the first. The Mustangs then pushed across two runs in the second and fourth inning. In the fourth, Martin Murphy Mustangs scored on a two-run double by Romani, plating Adriana Pardo and Faith Stanley.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fourth, Britton Bobcats faced just a 5-1 deficit.
Martin Murphy Mustangs increased its lead with two runs in the sixth.
A double by Romani ignited the offense, plating Cami Brown. That was followed up by Maddie Fisher’s single, scoring Romani.
The game wasn’t in doubt after the top of the sixth, as Martin Murphy Mustangs chalked up two more runs making it a 7-1 game.
An RBI double by Gia Tawney, in the bottom of the sixth gave the Britton Bobcats life. And it seemed like their bats just wouldn’t stop as they tore through the line up. Finally, Herman induced an inning-ending ground ball to Maddie Moore to get the third out and make Martin Murphy history.
Martin Murphy Mustangs have not won a Championship Match since 1994.
Despite the dramatic ending, Coach Kevin Mann was able to bring home the trophy for the first time in two decades.
