Reflecting back on my many musical endeavors in 2014, I think fondly about all the fun places I had the privilege of performing and all the talented musicians I played with as duos, trios, quartets, and full bands. I must thank my lucky stars for such opportunities and the ability to express myself through music.
Some of the musical performances included playing 12 local and regional Art & Wine Festivals, two car shows, four wineries, four farmer’s markets, at least 10 restaurants, 15 night clubs and bars, three music stores, one auto repair shop, a movie theater, two shopping centers and more than 15 private parties — plus a solo show on the Passport Wine Tours party bus. Some of my busiest times had me performing between 18 to 22 times in a month, not counting all the jam sessions I managed to squeeze in.
This year I spent a lot of time developing my singer-songwriter persona and surprised myself by writing a half a dozen songs including co-writing a song from beginning to end strictly by text and email. I was a featured guest three times at singer-songwriter showcases throughout the South Bay performing along side many top locals. I also had some opportunities recording in a variety of studios on other musician’s projects working with some top area music producers like Polo Jones and Robert Berry.
One of the most fascinating performances for me this year happened during the summer at a private backyard party when I was introduced to and performed with Jeffrey Marshall. Marshall is a Los Angeles singer, song-writer, bass player, harmonica player and guitarist who was born without arms or legs.
He continually amazes people with his talents and ability to overcome his physical disabilities.
We literally set him on a table with a guitar at his deformed feet. He played with his toes and sang his own original songs. It was one of my most inspiring performances in my entire musical career.
I must say that working with Morgan Hill Life, writing my Music in the Air column, and meeting so many interesting and diverse people in and around our community has made this one of the best media jobs in my 39-year career. I am so looking forward to more good shows and musical opportunities in 2015.

On another note, it’s a brand new year and the local music scene continues to grow with special shows at The Granada Theater and a consistent array of live music at The GVA Cafe, 88 Keys, The Hill (every Friday), and The Trail Dust BBQ (every Friday).
And when spring comes around, be on the look out for many outdoor shows and events including Thursday nights on the patio at Mama Mia’s.

See you in the new year!
