Photo by Marty Cheek Children learned about the world of spiders at the annual Tarantula Fest at Henry W. Coe State Park’s Visitor Center. The event was held Oct. 4 and brought about 250 people to the park, many from outside the South Valley region who experienced it for the first time. The event was organized by the Pine Ridge Association, a group of volunteers who spend their time making sure that Coe Park is a safe and educational place for all people to experience the natural environment. Besides studying spiders under microscopes, visitors to the Tarantula Fest enjoyed arts and crafts session where they made their own “spiders” out of pipe cleaners. Many also took nature hikes to search for tarantulas.
