Have you ever wondered where all the young professionals in South County hangout?

Do you believe in surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals?

Are you young at heart and interested in growing as a professional or even honing in on your entrepreneurial skills?

If any of these questions apply to you, the South County Young Professional Network (SCYPN) — pronounced “Skip’n” — is a newly-formed group to give business people in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Hollister an opportunity to grow their professional and personal network. SCYPN’s goal is to encourage collaboration through a variety of events including educational seminars, mixers and other fun events.

While most young professional networks have age restrictions, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce’s group will be defined as “young at heart,” with no set age restrictions. It will also include participants from throughout the South Valley.

Whether you are thinking about starting a business or have been managing your own business for years, we at SCYPN extend an open invitation to you. Mark your calendars for our first mixer held at The Hill in downtown Morgan Hill from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 26. The mixers will be mainly social events at a local restaurant or venue during the week after normal business hours. We are also planning four events this year that will be educational in nature during normal business hours

The first event is a tentatively scheduled field trip and luncheon at the LinkedIn campus Friday March 13. Stay tuned for additional details.

Our group is currently working on creating a logo that will incorporate a representation of the three cities. We are also working on securing graphic design and pamphlet services for further outreach, and one of our members will create and maintain a Facebook page.

Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce board members Chair Matthew Bowen, Vice Chair Brittney Sherman, Marketing Director Sam Kabert Treasurer Alyssa Garcia and Gilroy Chamber President Lisa Faria started this new group to engage young professionals. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you as a business professional. Follow us on Facebook for the latest information and feel free to contact any of us at any time for more information.

Brittney Sherman is on the board of directors for the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce and is the sales manager for the Residence Inn and the Courtyard Hotels by Marriott.
