More than $20,000 to be donated to worthy local nonprofits in 2014

By Brad Ledwith

The season for giving is lasting just a little bit longer this year thanks to the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill.

I’m proud to announce that our club through fundraising efforts is able to provide $20,000 to local organizations in 2014.

We are reaching out to help with projects that simply need to be done when there are no other funds available.

This year’s recipients are Morgan Hill Pony Baseball to refurbish some of the scoreboards, Community Solutions to upgrade their family therapy furnishings, El Toro Youth Center to replace chairs and desks, Paradise Valley Elementary School for reading software and the technology program, Martha’s Kitchen for heavy duty pots and pans, the Morgan Hill Dog Owners for new shade structures at the dog park, Crossroads Christian School for a ball wall and a new interactive white board, Learning and Loving Center with English dictionaries, and El Toro Elementary School for Netbooks, Chromebooks, and cameras for the yearbook. Leadership Morgan Hill, Rotacare, and the Community Law Enforcement Foundation also received grants towards specialized projects.

The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill increased its grant program by 100 percent in 2014 because the applicants and needs were so worthy. We were able to accomplish this because of the generosity of Rotarians and the Morgan Hill community always supporting our major fundraisers: Dazzle and The Golf Tournament.

In the spring, the club will also award $14,000 in scholarships to local youth in Morgan Hill high schools as a way to promote education and service above self.

Serving as president of the president of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill allows me to see all of our hard work at fundraising recycle back into the community.

Partnering with these other great organizations is what makes Morgan Hill a wonderful community to live and work in.
