If you haven’t noticed, downtown Morgan Hill is thriving. And the Morgan Hill Downtown Association Board of Directors works hard to make the downtown the “heart of the community.”

The board is comprised of downtown business owners and residents whose objective is to organize and support events, initiatives and activities that showcase downtown Morgan Hill as a destination with something for everyone. Whether celebrating a special occasion, a couple on their first date, or a group of moms enjoying a night out, downtown Morgan Hill is a place that brings families and friends together, and lends the opportunity to establish new relationships.

The Thursday Night Street Dance at Third Street and Monterey Road is a great excuse to pack up the kids and your lawn chairs from 7 to 9 p.m., through Sept. 26. How can you pass on a free outdoor concert in ideal weather surrounded by neighbors and future friends?

You don’t even need to think about dinner, because you have more than a dozen food options along Monterey Road to choose from. Don’t forget to check out the local vendors who sell their artwork, crafts and jewelry. Sorry to those of you who were holding out for the Farmer’s Market — we’ll have one next season — but until then, the good music and better company should be enough to lure you downtown.

The next event on the MHDA calendar is Sept. 14, 1 to 5 p.m. – our annual Brew Crawl, a beer tasting event downtown, similar to our spring Wine Stroll. This year our downtown businesses are hosting 22 breweries.

Your purchased ticket is your trade-in for a tasting glass to partake in an afternoon of beer sampling and local business support.

Tickets are already on sale for $25 ($35 the day of), but this event will sell out, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance at www.morganhilldowntown.org or at one of following downtown businesses: A-Jay’s Cheese Steaks, BookSmart, Bubbles Wine Bar, Carta Luna, Champs Bar & Grill, Continental Stitch, El Toro Brewery, Fast Frame, Grinds Vines & Automobilia Cafe, Huntington Station, Just G’s Boutique, Ladera Grill, Murphy’s Mercantile, Portraits by Rebecca, Ricatoni’s, Rosy’s at the Beach, The Candy Parlour, Jewel Box Morgan Hill, The Music Tree, To Dye for Salon, and Tryst Fashion Apparel, and on the flyers posted around town.

Attending events like the Brew Crawl is a great way to get to know the stores and restaurants that make Morgan Hill the secret gem in south Santa Clara County that so many families, empty-nesters and single up-and-comers, are finding out about. Just take a look at all the new developments and “sold” signs popping up throughout Morgan Hill.

Thank you to all our MHDA volunteers who care about making our downtown a vibrant place to shop, work, dine and play.
We thought it might be fun for you to get to know our board, so in future issues of Morgan Hill Life we will be introducing some of the volunteers who help ensure marque events — such as the Downtown Brew Crawl — go off without a hitch.
