Morgan Hill Unified School District Superintendent Steve Betando will make the first ever State of the Schools address 6:30 p.m., Sept. 15, at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. The event is open to the public and is sponsored by Morgan Hill Life.

“This is the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Betando. “It’s exciting, and we are grateful to Morgan Hill Life for giving us this platform to discuss where we are as a school district and talk about the many great accomplishments we’ve had over the last year.”

Betando will discuss various issues relating to the district’s overarching vision, school construction, transitional kindergarten, to student achievements and the fiscal well-being of the district.

“It’s important to us as a district that the community knows the scope of what and how we are doing overall,” he said. “There are so many wonderful things happening and changes taking place that it’s hard to keep up. This will give us a chance to share and celebrate with the community on a broader scale.”

The idea for the address came about during a Chamber of Commerce monthly breakfast a few months ago when Mayor Steve Tate did a reprise of his State of the City address for the members, said Morgan Hill Life Publisher Marty Cheek.

“People really want to learn what is happening in the city and where the city leaders are taking Morgan Hill,” Cheek said. “Editor Robert Airoldi and I thought that perhaps with all the recent changes in the school district, residents might want to hear the superintendent discuss the vision for enhancing education for all the students. A forum much like the State of the City address could focus on educational issues important to the community and encourage residents to be more engaged with our local schools.”

The State of the Schools address is open to the public and MHUSD and Morgan Hill Life encourages all interested parents, business owners, staff, and community members to attend. Seating will be limited to about 120. Time will be provided for questions from the public and will be answered by the superintendent as well as the district’s three assistant superintendents.
